hey there
night before marathon run...so excited and nervous. sleep will be an interesting challenge tonight :)
i have been praying and meditating throughout the afternoon
so grateful to so many people for the support that i have received around this run that i am doing on behalf of the national eating disorder association....
it's been a gift to use my body for something bigger than the ego-me...
to offer the training and the run itself up to all people on this planet who have had a fraught relationship with themselves, their bodies, their souls, their emotions, their place in this funny world, their food, their relationships....
i see so much as a microcosm....how i drive, how i eat, how i work....is how i LIVE.
all my values and beliefs are imbued into how i do what i do each day.
to notice when i persevere, when i buckle, when i ignore my heart, when i kick ass, when i am gentle....whether it's when i have been training for this, or how i am in a meeting, on a phone call, out at a party....
bringing this kind of awareness to this time and this cause has been one of the great chapters of my life
it's returned me to that wild-eyed jock girl i was when i was young...
alive and energetic and bouncing off the walls...the great combo of masculine and feminine....
finessing the art of figuring out when to push and when to rest...this process has forced me to grow up! love it

to the people at NEDA
to you, who contributed to this cause through this site
to my friends who have rallied around and buoyed my runs and blisters and reframing of all things athletic (Food, sleep, massage etc)
to the people i am running with (my brother wade, my friends tim and leah)...

excited to have the last of the release days at hand...
there is always the night-before-final-public-sharing feeling in the pit of my stomach...
I am
familiar with it now..
I know it
visits for an
hour and then disappears forever, until the next expression is shared...
thoughts like:
how great
how dare you
how beautiful
how not
how imperative
how fun
how lovely
how terrifying
how perfectly natural...

a sensitive in a public crooner's body...

songs written for me, to get it all out so that I don't get sick...
to distill, clarify, flesh out, catapult...

the act of sharing it publicly done in the spirit of invitation...
the invitation to feel less shame, more allowance, more neutrality, validation, comfort,
self-definition in accordance, support...a bounce, a shoulder alongside...
the knowledge that you are never alone.
the gentleness toward my/your own humanity and it's many colors.

so the album goes from being mine to being yours overnight..

I offer it with a hug, a giggle, some sweat beads, a shrug and a high five....

"FOE" sightings in Manila

A friend called me to let me know that he already purchased the cd in Odyssey XL in Megamall.

So sounds like Warner Music Manila is slowly but surely distributing the cds to record stores in the city.

So please do get your "original" copy.

So today is the international release day for Flavors of Entanglement (FoE).

Cheers to all those people who was able to get it on time at their location!

As for Philippines, Warner Music have not been able to release it, so presumably it was delay and it will be seen on display in the coming days.

I'll keep my ears open.

Morissette Experiments With New 'Flavors'

Alanis Morissette will burst back onto the scene next spring with the album "Flavors of Entanglement." The set balances world- and folk-influenced tracks against the experimental pop leanings of producer Guy Sigsworth (Bjork, Madonna).

"When I heard the song 'Let Go' by [Sigsworth's band] Frou Frou, I listened over and over again. I was blown away by it. I called him on the phone myself and after a couple of conversations, I could tell we were going to be on the same page," Morissette tells Billboard.com.

The Canada native envisioned an album that pulled in her various musical interests, "a combination of everything" from organic instruments to hip-hop beats. Plus, "it's the first time since I was 16 I've had a boy back-up sing on one of my album. I'm finally giving them a chance," she laughs.

The effort, which she hopes to whittle down to 11 tracks in the following weeks, includes "Not As We," which features only piano and vocals, and "Moratorium," which is "essentially a song about my readiness to stop repeating bad patterns. I've kicked some of those in my life."

Thematically, the album explores Morissette's personal struggles over the last few years and the more political struggles in the world over. "Really, in the end, the personal struggles are political. Our emotions align themselves with larger symptomatic things in the world," Morissette explains. "We face a large war out there, but [the album] more closely reflects the war in peoples' living rooms... the icy silence at home, versus the big cold war."

As previously reported, Morissette signed on to the film adaptation of Philip K. Dick's 1985 sci-fi novel "Radio Free Albemuth," which started shooting in October. Morissette, who has acted since she was a preteen, said her screen ambitions have been a welcome escape from the music industry at times.

Fans eager to hear new material can catch the aritst on the road with matchbox twenty starting in January.

Canadian Hall of Fame to Induct Alanis

Alanis Morissette is everywhere these days, eh? The singer is currently working on a feature film, planning a tour with the newly reformed Matchbox 20, and getting ready for induction into Canada’s music Hall of Fame, all set for 2008.

The Hall of Fame organizers in Canada announced Monday that Morissette will be inducted alongside Nettwerk Music Group CEO Terry McBride and “Canadian Idol” producer John Brunton during the Canadian Music Awards on March 6.

Morissette will also receive a lifetime achievement award on March 7 at the Canadian Radio Music Awards. The events are all a part of Canadian Music Week, which is held throughout Toronto.

The seven-time Grammy winner and 12-time Juno Award winner’s upcoming studio album, “Flavors of Entanglement,” is set to drop this Spring. Before the record hits stores, she will kick off the “Exile in America” tour with Matchbox 20 and Mute Math on January 25, in Hollywood, Florida.

Morissette a novel vision for 'Radio'

Alanis Morissette has joined the cast of novelist Philip K. Dick's semi-autobiograhical feature adaptation "Radio Free Albemuth."

In writer-director John Alan Simon's film, Morissette plays Sylvia, a woman who shows up in the vision of a record label executive named Nick (Jonathan Scarfe) as a glamorous singer.

In reality, she's an ordinary woman in unexpected remission from lymphoma who, after appearing in Nick's visions, gets a job as his secretary. She becomes his soul mate thanks to the pair's shared spirituality and visions.

"I am a big fan of Philip K. Dick's poetic and expansively imaginative books," Morissette said. "I feel blessed to portray Sylvia, and to be part of this story being told in film."

Shea Whigham ("Wristcutters: A Love Story"), Katheryn Winnick ("Failure to Launch") and Hanna Hall (2007's "Halloween") also star. Simon and his Discovery Prods. are producing with Dale Rosenbloom and his Open Pictures ("The Girl in The Park") and Rhino Films' Stephen Nemeth ("Dogtown and Z-Boys").

Dick's 1976 novel, published posthumously in 1985, is loosely based on his own experience with visions in the mid-'70s.

"Radio" began filming this month in and around Los Angeles.

Morissette is repped by CAA.

Alanis is one of the many special guest for The Nightwatchman debut album release party at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles.

She played a new song with her band, called "Not As We", together with Guy Sigsworth on piano.

Also, she did her version of Rage Against The Machine's Guerilla Radio, and after her set, she was invited back on the stage by the original guitarist of Extreme' Nuno Bettencourt to sing "More Than Words" with him.

Singer Alanis Morissette is going to perform the title song for the American thriller Drifter made by Dutch director Roel Reiné. The filmmaker announced it yesterday. The song is called Moonlight Sonata and is a free variant on the Piano Sonata No. 14 from Ludwig von Beethoven.

Morissette will portray "Poppy," the love interest of anesthesiologist "Dr. Liz Cruz," played by series star Roma Maffia. The first of Morissette's three nip/tuck appearances will air on October 31, 2006 at 10 PM ET/PT.

Since emerging in 1995, Morissette has become one of the premiere singer/songwriters in contemporary music. Her international debut album Jagged Little Pill became one of the most successful albums of all time. Her deeply expressive music and performances have earned vast critical praise, seven Grammy Awards and total album sales exceeding 40 million.
