Alanis2.com "Jagged Little Pill Acoustic" Review

This acoustic version of her smash hit album "Jagged Little Pill" -
is much better than what I expected.

On first thought, this acoustic album seems like another Unplugged, rehashed.
But after listening through the entire album a few times, I see this is completely different -
it's the same songs in the same order, but they're also artfully done from their predecessors.

Jagged Little Pill Acoustic is the sound of a 2005' Alanis who is comfortable and settled, fondly reminiscing about her crazy past for an audience that is also comfortable and settled.

The cover is a sepia-toned replication of the original artwork, which is appropriate, because this is a toned-down version of the original record.

The record shows that Alanis is a grateful being - congratulating herself and her audience on surviving ten years while reflecting on how we've all personally grown in that decade.

Although, this doesn't change the song or its intent, but it does signal that Alanis has a slightly different perspective, one that is self-congratulatory, more tolerant, and more comfortable in her own skin.

This record is deliberately mature and certainly more tasteful than the original Jagged Little Pill;
I wonder though if Tori Amos will find this new version - easier to listen to?

The main highlight of this record apart from the eclectic instruments that have been used, is the 'shout-out to the gays' version of "Ironic" which now concludes with Alanis meeting the man of her dreams and meeting not his beautiful wife, but his beautiful husband. Thank you Alanis for being a 'hetero-flexible' with this new version of the song!

A must for long-time appreciators (she dislikes the word "fans"), a second chance to people whose ears hurt with the original, and a good starting point for new music lovers.

Alanis gets Crazy with Gap

In case you're wondering, Alanis Morissette's favorite song is Crazy by Seal and her favorite pair of jeans is Gap's new Curvy Flair, information that Gap hopes will inspire you this fall to buy a new pair of Gap jeans.

Morissette and a cast of musicians including Joss Stone, John Legend, Jason Mraz and others appear in Gap's newest campaign, an effort that includes TV and print ads via Laird + Partners, New York. The campaign reprises an ongoing Gap theme, the relationship between jeans and music. For fall, the focus will be on "favorites," how your favorite jeans and favorite songs make the perfect fit.

The campaign breaks in August with a partnership with iTunes to introduce three new denim fits for womenCurvy, Straight and Originaland one for men called Straight. In August, Gap will host "Find Your Favorite Fit" events, designed to get people to try on the new styles. Each customer who tries on any pair of Gap jeans will receive a free download of their favorite song from iTunes.

Print ads introducing the new jean fits, the iTunes partnership and the "Find Your Favorite" events will run in August issues of weekly magazines including US Weekly, People and Entertainment Weekly. TV spots will air on network and cable from Aug. 8-23.

A second phase of the campaign drives home the "Favorites" message with TV and print ads in which each musician performs an original remake of his or her favorite song while wearing his or her favorite Gap jeans. A limited edition CD featuring the artists and their favorite songs will be sold exclusively at Gap stores and on Gap.com beginning Sept. 1. The CD contains eight songs exclusively recorded for Gap by the stars of the new campaign, a director's cut of the fall TV commercial and behind-the-scenes footage from the filming of the commercial. Gap customers will receive the CD as a gift with any Gap purchase of $60 or more.

TV will break in late August and air in spot markets and on cable TV. Print ads will run in September issues of Vanity Fair, Vogue, InStyle and Lucky.

Gap also will sponsor in late August MTV's Video Music Awards, which will be held in Miami.
